Peter Kenez (geboren als Péter Kenéz am 5. April 1937 in Budapest) ist ein ungarisch-US-amerikanischer Historiker.

Péter Kenéz wuchs in Pesterzsébet auf. Sein Vater wurde im März 1944 verhaftet und in das KZ Auschwitz deportiert und ermordet. Seine Mutter flüchtete mit Péter nach Budapest, wo sie die Judenverfolgung durch das Eichmann-Kommando und die Pfeilkreuzler überlebten.

Nach dem Ungarischen Volksaufstand 1956 flüchtete er in die USA. Kenez wurde in Geschichte bei Richard Pipes an der Harvard University promoviert. Er lehrte ab 1966 russische und moderne europäische Geschichte an der University of California, Santa Cruz und wurde dort Professor.
